Yesterday, October 9, 2011, at the cemetery of the Boer concentration camp of Balmoral, some Boers gathered to mark the anniversary of the birth of Paul Kruger (president of the Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek, ZAR - literally: “South African Republic”, Boer Republic in the region of the Transvaal), born October 10, 1825. The initiative, organized by Boere-Republikeine of Piet “Skiet” Rudolph, also wanted to remind MT Steyn, president of the Orange Free State (Oranje-Vrystaat) from 1896 to 1902, born October 2, 1857, and to commemorate the 24,000 Boer children (50% of the Boer child population of that time) and the 3,000 Boer women, died in the British concentration camps during the Second Boer War of Liberation (1899 - 1902).
