Flag of the Little Free State (Klein Vrystaat)
The flag of the Little Free State is similar to “Vierkleur” but with thinner green field.
The Little Free State was established in 1886, north-east of the actual town of Piet Retief, over an area of 36,000 acres (14,580 hectares). Since 1876, the Boers residents had bought land from the king of the Swazi Umbandino.
In 1888 the Little Free State asked to be incorporated in the ZAR (the Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek, literally: “South African Republic”, the Boer Republic in the region of the Transvaal). And so it happened, the 2nd August 1890.
